Dan Hurley Lands First 2021 Recruit, A Top-50 Point Guard

Philadelphia’s Rahsool Diggins Headed to Storrs

The Story: Philadelphia point guard Rahsool Diggins said no to hometown Villanova and said yes to Dan Hurley, announcing his commitment Sunday night as the Huskies added their first recruit for the Class of 2021.

WHO IS DIGGINS? Diggins is 6-foot-1 (at least on paper) and played at Archbishop Carroll in Philadelphia last season. He is the No. 41-ranked recruit in the class and another big get coming off a highly regarded 2020 class. Diggins chose the Huskies over Villanova and Kansas, among others.

WHAT CAN DIGGINS DO? He’s a smallish guard, but the Huskies have done well with those types of players over the years. Reports suggest he is more of a lead guard and scoring point guard and profiles in the vein of Kemba Walker, AJ Price and Shabazz Napier. He can play on or off the ball if need be.

WHAT CLOSED THE DEAL? What do we like most about Diggins? He said no to Villanova. Hurley went into two-time national champion Jay Wright‘s city and plucked a top-50 recruit out of there mainly on Zoom calls. Hurley knew which buttons to push and was able to hold off other national powers for his services.
