No Fans At Gampel For Now

No Fans For UConn Games

The Story: UConn will not have fans in the stands for its home games for the time being as a result of rising COVID-19 rates in Connecticut.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: We already know there won’t be any home games in Hartford this season, but now we won’t even have limited capacity at games in the early season. The only fans who will be allowed will be families of the players, which is going to make Gampel Pavilion feel like DePaul. It isn’t a surprise given rising infection rates and public health guidance, with the state limiting gathering sides as protocols roll back to Phase 2.

OUR TAKE: It’s tough to take, but we can only shrug. We have never felt so helpless about our entertainment and sports and the COVID-19 pandemic has laid waste to our life. We lost the NCAA Tournament, the college football and soccer seasons and now have no fans for the early part, at least, of the return to the Big East.

Right now, it’s a good thing the Huskies are going to play games. This is the most anticipated basketball season in some time and we are going to enjoy it as long as we can. That said, we are thrilled the Big East and the school are going to try to play. The fall season did not happen for UConn and we shudder to think of there being no basketball in Connecticut. Right now, we don’t have a full nonconference schedule, but there are Big East games coming up and that’s a good thing.

Congrats to Sue Bird

The Story: Over the weekend, power couple Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird announced their engagement on Instagram. Congrats to  Bird, who will be the second Bird in the Hall of Fame when she decides to end her legendary basketball career.
