LSU? Texas A&M? Miami? Florida QB Picks Huskies

Top Florida QB Prospect Chooses Huskies

The Story: The quarterbacks just keep coming as the football team landed a commitment from Zion Turner, a three-star prospect from St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

WHO IS HE? Turner, who is 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, is a high school senior, the No. 33-ranked quarterback in the country and the No. 83 player in Florida, according to 247Sports. He’s eligible to play for the Huskies beginning in the fall.

• Turner also held scholarship offers from LSU, Texas A&M, Miami, Louisville, Kentucky, Louisville, Arkansas and Pitt, among other schools. Before getting excited about those offers, though, it’s not clear if any of them were to play quarterback. If they were, he’d be rated significantly higher.

• St. Thomas Aquinas, which churns out a very of Power 5 prospects each year (and was home to the legendary Dwayne Difton), won the last three state titles with Turner at quarterback.

CROWDED COMPETITION: Turner will join a stable of quarterbacks that includes Penn State transfer Ta’Quan Roberson, former Oregon recruit Cale Millen, freshman phenom Tyler Phommachanh and Steven Krajewski, who finished the season as the starter.

• Who will start from that group is anyone’s guess, but it’s clear UConn has never had as many talented quarterbacks as it will have come this spring.

STAFF ADDITIONS: UConn announced the hirings of Errin Joe, who will serve as the director of recruiting, and Beau Davidson, the director of player personnel.

• Joe was at Georgia Tech, where he played as an offensive lineman, and Davidson was at Texas A&M as the director of recruiting last season.

Butler Part Deux

The Story: A rematch in Indianapolis is on tap as the men’s basketball team takes on Butler on the road tomorrow (9 p.m., FS1).

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Not much. UConn is better than Butler, as it proved on Tuesday in Storrs. Ranked No. 25 in the nation and at 12-4 and 3-2 in the Big East, the Huskies can’t allow for a slip-up against the Bulldogs (9-8, 2-3 Big East).

SANOGO IN RARE COMPANY: We love random stats and comparisons to great players. Adama Sanogo‘s recent play includes at least 15 rebounds and three blocks in three straight games. He is the first player to do that since the 1996-97 season, when a guy from Wake Forest named Tim Duncan pulled it off. Duncan had a heck of an NBA career after he left college, so perhaps Sanogo can carve out a niche at the next level like the Big Fundamental. There’s no pressure for Sanogo to only live up to one of the great big men of the modern era.

PISTOL PETE? Andre Jackson is keeping “Pistol” Pete Maravich alive in his game. We just gotta give a shoutout to our buddy Dom Amore for that connection.
