Huskies Have 7 Players Ready for St. John’s

Huskies Healthy to Face St. John’s

The Story: The No. 4-ranked women’s basketball team will have enough healthy players to take on St. John’s tomorrow night after its game against DePaul, scheduled for Sunday, was postponed.

ALL CLEAR: A team spokesperson said yesterday afternoon that the Huskies (13-2, 6-0 Big East) have “at least seven players” eligible to face the Red Storm (14-1, 5-1 Big East).

• UConn’s home game against DePaul had to be called off Friday evening, before the Blue Demons traveled to Connecticut, because the Huskies didn’t have the Big East minimum of seven players available for the game.

WHO’S BACK? The school didn’t specify, but the four players who aren’t out for the season are on the mend. That means sophomore guards Azzi Fudd (right knee) and Caroline Ducharme (concussion), or junior forward Aaliyah Edwards (right ankle) or freshman forward Ayanna Patterson (possible concussion), who were injured against Butler on Thursday, will be available.

• Fudd, who was injured in the Huskies’ loss at Notre Dame on Dec. 4, has participated in warmups the last three games. She was initially expected to miss three to six weeks, and a return tomorrow night would come at five and a half weeks since the injury.

UP IN THE POLLS: Despite being in that predicament, the Huskies moved up to No. 4 in the Associated Press poll yesterday afternoon. They’re behind South Carolina, Stanford and Ohio State.
